ALITHIA SPURI-ZAMPETTI AND MILES ALDRIDGE PRESENT PAULE KA SPRING-SUMMER 2017

Established for more than 20 years in Asia, Paule Ka pays homage to Japanese culture and traditions in its Spring-Summer 2017 collection

For the realization of the Spring Summer 17 advertising campaign, her third one since she has joined PAULE KA as creative Director, Alithia Spuri-Zampetti has renewed her collaboration with English
photographer Miles Aldridge. The pair has created a lucid Japanese dream of floating bamboo forests and technicolor sunsets, drawing influence from the Torii of Miyajima island, standing steadfast against the ever-changing tides.
The set, a wooden walkway suspended on a plane of inky water weaving its way through lacquered bamboo poles, was inspired by the highly-stylized work of set designer Eiko Ishioka, most notably her production on the ‘Golden Pavilion’ chapter of Paul Schrader’s film “Mishima”. Her graphic work, the fruit of a fertile
imagination and audacious mind create a world of ethereal beauty. Through her use of color, line, and perspective, she juxtaposes naïve art forms with a refined stylistic vision.
Each of the four images of the campaign features one of the four iconic silhouettes of the Maison Paule Ka:
the ‘fitted dress’, the ‘A-line’, the ‘full-skirted’ and the ‘fit and flare’. Each style was reengineered in vibrant striped jacquards, the fabrics made in Italy, and meticulously pleated by the Parisian atelier to breathe new life into the classic styles. The sharp lines of pleated stripes complemented perfectly by the graphic, towering bamboo, with Miles mastery of analog film photography capturing the myriad of colors present in each exposure.
Model Yumi Lambert embodies the season’s mood perfectly, a French-speaking Belgian, but with a strong Japanese heritage, she told the story of the collection effortlessly bringing together the two cultures that inspired the designs. With a strong character but at the same time an elegant beauty it is hard not to be drawn to, she transcends the scene and transports each dress to a distant setting of beauty and serenity.
