Aspinal of London Teams Up With Emma J Shipley For AW’16

Aspinal of London, the classic English luxury accessories brand has joined forces with Emma J Shipley, the award-winning graphic artist. The result is a capsule collection of bags and scarves that celebrate Aspinal’s AW16 pearl theme while looking towards the future.

The collaboration came about one afternoon when Mariya Dykalo, Aspinal’s Creative Director, was searching for inspiration online and came across Emma’s work, “Emma’s illustrations were so ethereal, intricate and beautiful, I fell totally in love”.

With the Pegasus shoulder bag already in the pipeline for Aspinals’ mainline collection, Emma’s illustrations of a Pegasus fell beautifully into place, forming a contemporary mythological capsule collection. “I’m a huge fan of Aspinal of London and the collaboration is an exciting opportunity to translate my detailed pencil illustrations onto bags, using the most beautiful craftsmanship,” explains Shipley.

Taking inspiration from Aspinal’s iconic feather symbol, Shipley created the magical Pegasus figure, ethereal and resplendent in pearl white. Hand-drawn pearly constellations, planets, galaxies and shooting stars surround this mythological creature which is digitally printed onto key bag silhouettes and beautiful silk, twill and cashmere blend scarves. “I was really inspired by the quintessentially English style of Aspinal and wanted to combine this with my own imagination, adding a magical, fantastical and whimsical quality” says Shipley.

The collection features bold use of the Pegasus illustration digitally printed onto soft calf leather, translated over a key selection of styles including the Trunk and Scarlett clutches. The result is a fresh take on the mainline collection inspiration and an exciting evolution of the Aspinal feather.

The collection spans five key bag styles including the iconic Midi and Mini Marylebones, the cute Mini Trunk clutch, the Scarlett Box clutch and the oversized zipped pouch. These hero bags are accompanied by a selection of illustrative scarf designs.
