Amazing hair is the beauty holy grail for most of us. Expectations are high: we want a colour that is warming and emphasises our best features, and a style that’s easy to do but makes us look polished and oozing in self-confidence.
I was getting bored of my longer style (not to mention drowning in split ends) plus as soon as my strands meet heat, my hair is liable to frizz, kink and look unkempt. It has been my mission for some time to find a hairdresser that understands my hair and can make it look its best – even in the UAE’s current hotter climate.
Luckily for me, I didn’t have to look too far afield as Rossano Ferretti Hairspa has recently opened up in Abu Dhabi and is making waves in the city. Known as the man behind the most expensive hair cut in the world (it’s rumoured that a cut with Ferretti costs around AED 4,500), he has a celebrity and royal client list as long as his arm: The Duchess of Cambridge, Jennifer Lawrence, Reese Witherspoon.
Boasting 20 salons in leading destinations around the globe, Ferretti is known for pioneering the so-called “invisible haircut,” or The Method, which is essentially applying a bespoke approach to each person’s hair, ensuring that it fits and respects their specific natural needs.
Sadly, on the day of my appointment I didn’t get to meet the man himself (he was in Italy) but I certainly wasn’t disappointed to be greeted by one of his top Style Directors, Elisa.
Elisa wowed me from the start as she expertly ran her fingers through my hair, feeling the texture and watching how it fell. She then cut my hair using patented texturizing scissors – literally picking up sections and cutting each of them as though chopping through forestry.
After the cut, Elisa applied some of Ferretti’s own line of hair product – Natural Hair Movement Enhancer – and decided to let my hair air-dry to see if the usual frizzy strands would form. After just a few minutes my hair dried into very loose, frizz-free waves – an entirely new texture. It is if I have blow dried or diffused my hair but all I have done is relax in the chair. Plus, my strands feel significantly softer and almost weightless.
Apart from having been captivated by the cutting process, I am delighted with the results. It’s a cut that looks accidental, messy, undone. And yet none of that would be quite so apparent without a very deliberate and exacting thought process behind it.
I am rewarded with hair that’s infinity less frizzy and much easier to style. In fact, in hacking off three inches of hair, Elisa’s shaved 20 minutes off my morning routine and it has been a game changer not to be a slave to my hair dryer. A must-have experience.
