Multi Award winning Okku , located in the H Hotel, is unlike any other Japanese Restaurant in the UAE regarding its dainty, yet ethereal mise en scène. On entering, you feel enchanted by the faint but haunting smell of magnolia flowers typical to a Kyoto pond trip. The staff are exclusively Japanese, which is quite refreshing for a change and an added bonus for the traditional service spiked in a modern city.
The interiors provide a casual setting with coffee tables and chairs more visible than your typical couch and broad tables. The restaurant features an ultra-chic bar, the mezzanine lounge which includes VIP dining rooms and the main restaurant with a sushi bar.
The lounge boasts an extensive cocktail menu, a mesmerizing 8-metre jellyquarium and a resident DJ all the way from Miami.
The cocktail bar is something one shouldn’t miss out on when dining here. There are 5 bar men at your service and you’ll never have to worry about not having your favorite drink on the menu. We were served with lemon fruit sherbet mocktail as recommended by the manager – an intriguing concoction, but a little too was too sour and too bitter for our taste sadly.
When we went ahead to kick off the dinner with Okku’s exclusive menu offerings, the experience was a treat.
The special menu set for us featured a beautiful selection of signature ‘O’ style cuisine. The menu includes delicacies such as Foie Gras Sushi, Yuzu-Saikyo Miso Black Cod and ‘O’ Style Hamachi Carpaccio, which is all topped off with a chocolate fondant to keep the evening sweet.
While the Foie Gras Sushi and the Miso Black Cod didn’t quite live up to our expectations, the presentation of every dish was like a tantalising piece of art. The chocolate fondant however, was what we would call “save the best for last” as it certainly took away the disappointment that the former presented.
Overall, the food was good and the experience overwhelmingly satisfying.
Two dishes you should definitely look forward to are the ‘O’ Style Hamachi Carpaccio grilled rice for the main course and the fruit spaghetti served as dessert if you’re not fond of chocolate related sweets. Both the desserts were a big hit with us!
