Being British and holding my heritage dear, whilst being an avid fan of all things ‘beauty/grooming,’ you can imagine my delight when I learnt that the Quintessentially British Apothecary Brand, Gentlemen’s Tonic, had arrived in Abu Dhabi and taken residence at its exclusive salon in Emirates Palace Spa!

For those unfamiliar with Gentlemen’s Tonic, let me fill you in… it is an award winning establishment founded in 2004 in the heart of Mayfair, London. Gentlemen’s Tonic prides itself on delivering the highest quality of treatments and grooming services for men. We sent one lucky KM representative for his own first-hand experience of the Emirates Palace Spa’s ‘Just For Men’ package.

A package designed to suit all your needs in express time. Start off with a 60 minute deep pressure massage followed by an express Gentlemen’s Tonic facial. Visit the Gentlemen’s Tonic Salon and then choose between a cut and style or quick shave as your finishing touch.

After a busy day at the office, I was looking forward to some down time combined with an overdue grooming session at Gentlemen’s Tonic. Upon arrival at the Emirates Spa Reception, the soothing ‘zen’ ambience washed over me as the scent of aromatherapy oils, dim lighting and soft mood music set the scene for what was to come. I felt an immediate sense of relaxation. I was invited to take a seat and offered a welcome drink and hot towel whilst having a brief consultation with the spa therapist to ascertain what I was hoping to achieve from my first treatment – the 60 minute massage.

Once upstairs in the private spa suite, I de-robed and tapped the gong to signal that I was ready for the treatment to begin. It started with a refreshing foot cleanse in petalled water and gentle foot scrub followed by a menthol foot spray to leave my feet feeling revived and re-energised. The massage itself was expertly administered with the medium-relaxing pressure requested in order to achieve a balance of working on tired muscles and problem areas whilst also relaxing my aching body. I soon found myself drifting in and out of a light slumber and felt completely unwound.

The full body massage was followed by an express facial where the therapist followed an efficient cleansing routine starting with the use of hot flannel mittens followed by a scrub applied with stimulating circular movements, a cleansing mask, toner and then a face cream to finish. I felt refreshed from top to toe and was ready for my grooming session at Gentlemen’s Tonic.

Once dressed and back downstairs, I was served a light refreshment of dates with mint tea before Tony Habib, Senior Barber at Gentlemen’s Tonic, greeted me and led me through to his elegant salon. The large stylish and uber comfortable traditional barber chairs were a feature in themselves and I felt immediately at ease surrounded by only the very best barber’s tools and products knowing that what was to come was a world-class professional service stemming from years of tradition and know-how.

Tony started with a consultation asking me what style I preferred before washing my hair as I reclined in the super comfortable leather clad chair and enjoyed a relaxing head massage into the bargain! Then came the cut & style before another quick wash enabling Tony to double check his work, fine tune the style and finish it off with a light styling product.

Having been to many men’s salons around the world, my experience at Gentlemen’s Tonic was quite simply unparalleled. The slick decor exuding a sense of understated elegance and refinement, the top-of-the-range leather clad barber chairs and above all, the highly professional service and results all combined for a truly traditional and enjoyable barber’s experience and I for one, am looking forward to treating myself to visiting Tony and his team again soon!
