Pioneer British auction house Sotheby’s, internationally acclaimed artist Hesham Malik and highly revered auctioneer Edward Rising came together earlier this month for a unique charity art auction at the One and Only Royal Mirage, where 25 of the artist’s collection Espãrito (Spirit) went under the hammer.
The sold-out auction, attended by art lovers and art connoisseurs, was truly applauded by all for the brilliant collection from the ‘Young Master’ that was displayed. The guest of honor included HE Dr Sheikha Hind Al Qasimi, a member of the royal family of the Emirate of Sharjah, UAE; Her Royal Highness Princess Fay Jahan Ara, a noted philanthropist and HE Sheikh Abdulla Al Sharqi, a member of the royal family from the Emirate of Fujairah.
Seamlessly bringing together works of art and charity, Malik’s latest collection Espãrito is an ode to the ever-evolving spirit of life.
Conducting the auction, in association with Sotheby’s, was Edward Rising, a professional auctioneer with a wealth of experience in conducting auctions at top Auction Houses in the Fine Art world and the Charity sector. Edward said “It was surprising to see the response for art, here in Dubai. Hesham Malik is great in his work and I was extremely thrilled to chair the auction. Having conducted the auction for the first time here in Dubai, the experience was quite different and especially beautiful to meet Hesham Malik and experience his art in his presence.”
Responsible for selling millions of pounds of Fine Art over the past twenty five years, Edward Rising has worked for Sotheby’s for eight years and during this time he has had the opportunity of chairing some of Sotheby’s most high profile auctions, such as the collection of the late Gianni Versace, which he sold for £7,411,918 GBP.
The auction is a charitable initiative in collaboration with Rashid Pediatric Therapy Centre, where the proceeds from the auction will go towards the charity for the special needs children at the Rashid centre.
This exclusive event was organized by Dubai-based art consultant, curator and collector, Manisha Sugandh, who was supported by art curator Ayesha Imtiaz, in collaboration with The Rashid Pediatric Therapy Centre.
Earlier last month, the artist visited the children at the Rashid Paediatric and painted 2 live canvases which also were a part of the Espãrito collection.
Malik’s latest collection Espãrito is an ode to the ever-evolving spirit of life.
When one defines Espãrito, the first few words that come to the mind are angel, energy, mystery and force. The event intends to showcase a wide range of illustrations for viewers. The main goal is to convey a visual representation of modern abstraction and art leading to the colours found within one’s heart.
“With the abstract, the enigma of art is revealed directly through a pictorial city in which naturalistic perceptions are transformed by the myriad processes and the beauty of its imagination,” said Malik.
