Jones The Grocer Welcomes Celebrity Chef Omar Allibhoy 13 – 26 April

Foodies across the UAE will be delighted to learn that acclaimed chef, author, restauranteur and television personality, Omar Allibhoy, will be headlining jones the grocer’s Taste of Spain this April. From 13 to 26 April, the finest culinary delights from Spain will take centre stage on jones the grocer’s Chef’s Specials Menu, retail shelves, bakery and patisserie.

Best known for being the founder and owner of the critically acclaimed Tapas Revolution as well as appearing on popular television programmes including, Sunday Brunch, The One Show and Masterchef, Omar has created a Chef Special’s Menu for jones the grocer from his book, Tapas Revolution. This menu will be available from 13 to 26 April at jones the grocer’s stores. Omar will also be conducting cooking masterclasses, cooking demonstrations and signing copies of his latest book in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. These exclusive events will take place at jones the grocer’s flagship store in Dubai on Wednesday 22 April and in the Capital in the vibrant Khalidiyah store on Thursday 23 April.

Omar Allibhoy states: “I am excited to be bringing Tapas Revolution to the UAE and by partnering with jones the grocer I cannot wait to show and teach everyone how to create these delicious dishes.”

Participants at jones the grocer’s celebrity chef masterclass will be welcomed with a selection of tapas, Omar’s lemonade with a twist and shown to their very own cooking station where they will find fresh ingredients waiting. Omar will then work closely with the class to make paella Valenciana (paella ‘valencia’ style) and crema catalana (catalonian custard pots). Participants can then enjoy the meal that they’ve prepared, have an opportunity to interact with Omar and receive a complimentary signed copy of his book Tapas Revolution. Cooking classes with Omar cost AED 995 all-inclusive and will be held on Wednesday 22 April in Al Manara (Dubai) and Thursday 23 April Khalidiyah (Abu Dhabi) respectively, Spanish grape pairing is available in Abu Dhabi for an additional AED 150.

For those not looking to be so hands on, Omar will also be performing a cooking demonstration imparting tips and techniques to create a selection of tapas, fideuà (seafood paella made with pasta) and crema catalana (catalonian custard pots) prior to these masterclasses, for AED 295 person, in Abu Dhabi participants have a choice of grape pairings for AED 445.

About Omar

Born in Madrid, Omar Allibhoy’s career really took off after training under the watchful eye of with three Michelin starred chef, Ferran Adrià. Omar has worked at a variety of restaurants including Gordon Ramsay’s Maze, who described him as ‘The Antonio Banderas of cooking’ before launching El Pirata de Tapas to huge critical acclaim and hasn’t looked back since. Omar launched Tapas Revolution at the end of 2010 and the restaurant opened with critical acclaim from such prestigious publications like The Daily Telegraph and The Guardian. Tapas Revolution was shortlisted for the London Lifestyle Awards for ‘Best Restaurant’ and Omar has been awarded recognition within the industry by winning last year’s Caterer and Hotelkeeper’s Acorn Award for ‘Rising Star’. Omar’s passion for food developed within his childhood kitchen: “I have always loved cooking, in fact one my earliest memories was watching my mother cook. I was only three but I remember being in awe of her in command of the kitchen.”
