Residents Of The UAE Join 72 Countries To Celebrate Global Wellness Day

Over 100 wellness enthusiasts participated in the first ever Global Wellness Day celebrations yesterday in Dubai. Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, the complimentary event was organized by the DNA Center for Integrative Medicine & Wellness in collaboration with the award-winning Talise Spa at Madinat Jumeirah and Aesthetica Clinic.

Taking place within the Talise Spa at Madinat Jumeirah, the day began with a relaxing hour-long yoga session on Madinat Jumeirah Resort’s pristine private beach guided by Talise Spa yoga instructor Vijay Sharma. Throughout the day, leading world-renowned doctors, dermatologists, surgeons and nutritionists were on hand to give advice on healthy ageing, balancing life, boosting wellbeing, learning to relax and manage stress. Guests were also treated to a selection of all-natural fresh pressed juices, smoothies, vegetarian and raw food items from Detox Delight and live cooking stations offering healthy snacks by the Madinat Jumeirah’s team of chefs.

Wellness is much more than simply the absence of sickness said Dr Nasim Ashraf, Global Wellness Day Ambassador for the UAE and Founder, CEO and Chief Medical Officer of the DNA Center for Integrative Medicine & Wellness, “The fundamental objective for celebrating Global Wellness Day in the UAE is to raise awareness of the topic of ‘wellness’ among people in the Emirates. We can improve our quality of life by covering all aspects of our wellbeing, which includes our physical, mental and emotional health. This awareness is critical to reducing the epidemic of chronic diseases that are prevalent in the UAE such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. The lifestyle choices that we make now can prevent or even eliminate the need to be treated in the future.

“The Holy Month of Ramadan is approaching and it gives individuals the opportunity to reboot their physical, emotional and spiritual wellness. It can be a catalyst for both an individual and the community to begin good health practices and concentrate on their overall wellness.

“It has been wonderful to see so many people here today who want to make a positive change in their lives. I would also like to thank His Highness Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development for his support of Global Wellness Day in the UAE.”

Stephan Wagner, Director of Spa and Wellness at Talise Spa, Madinat Jumeirah, said: “Today’s success shows that people in the UAE are moving towards a day-to-day approach that leads to balanced living. The philosophy of Global Wellness Day aims to remind everyone to recognise the value of our lives, not just for today, but every day.”
