Located in Dubai Marine Beach and Resort, Sho Cho is a heavenly summer escape where you can hang out and chill with your peers overlooking the Jumeirah waves, while savouring traditional Japanese bites and drinking refreshing mocktails…
When we first stepped into Sho Cho, what excited us most about the venue were the sleek futuristic white couches and lounge tables straight out of a sci fi movie. It was overlit with dim blue lighting in the evening and gave off a Californian club vibe straight from the 1980s.
Whilst the furniture might be sleek, there is a refreshingly relaxed atmosphere and the venue is a great place to casually hang out, sip some drinks at the bar and/or have a full 3 course meal. It is the perfect relaxing meet-up place for people arriving from work to hang out with some friends. A DJ amps up the atmosphere with the latest exciting tunes too…
When it came to the menu, we opted for a taste of their signature set menu. The set menu serves as a showcase for what the full menu and food is all about. Like any typical Japanese Restaurant, we were served a Starter plate of edamame ( green beans served within a leaf wrap ), followed by the delicious Prawn Gyoza (grilled Japanese dumplings with Prawns), Prawn Spring Rolls, Yakitori ( Japanese chicken skewers), Miso Soup, and Seared Salmon salad.
The Main course consists of Shrimp Tempura, Beef Teriyaki and a Sho Cho lounge special sushi platter.
Starting with the Prawn Gyoza, it had a rich burst of flavour coming from the marination of the prawns, served alongside soy sauce and a chili condiment. The Spring rolls were light and crispy, and tasted like regular prawn rolls. Our favourite from the appetizer was the Salmon salad as it tasted of fresh coriander and dill herbs tossed in a lemon zest vinaigrette served on a bed of light green vegetables drenched in a mild soy sauce. Spectacular!
Onto the main course, The Shrimp Tempuras definitely take the cake as they outdid the American classic, The Dynamite Shrimp. Elongated prawns deep fried in panko crumbs and flour, they were served with chili mayo and garlic sauce. The condiments definitely enhanced the flavour and added texture to the panko crumb on the body of the shrimps.
The Lounge sushi was outstanding as we got to try a dozen different variations of Sho Cho’s in house style of sushi. Our personal favourite was the tuna roll served with white mayo and soy sauce!
For desserts, we were served flavoured sorbets in passion fruit, strawberry and yuzu. They definitely made our evening very enjoyable and sealed the dinner with a good fruity zest.
Our final verdict: We highly recommend Sho Cho to all our readers.
